Man shot outside Birmingham’s Pizitz Food Hall was targeted, police say; bullets also struck Warby Parker store
A man shot outside the Pizitz Food Hall in downtown Birmingham appears to have been targeted, according to police.
The city’s North Precinct officers were dispatched to 1821 Second Ave. North at 8:30 p.m. Monday on a report of a person shot and shots fired into a business, said Officer Truman Fitzgerald.
The location was near the McWane Center.
When they arrived, they found the victim – who is believed to be in his late 20s – suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The food hall closes at 8 p.m.
Shots were also fired into Warby Parker, but no one was inside the business.
It appears, Fitzgerald said, the shooting may have been a drive-by.
No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call Birmingham felony assault investigators at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777
