A shooting late Sunday night in Montgomery left one man dead and another in jail.

Montgomery police and fire medics responded at 10:40 p.m. to the 4300 block of Hartford Street on a report of a person shot.

When officers arrived, they found 31-year-old MCarthur Washington III dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

Police have charged Roderick Virgil Owens Jr. with capital murder. He was taken into custody at the scene.

A motive has not been disclosed but charging documents against Owens state the charge is capital because the victim was in a vehicle when he was fatally shot.

Owens is being held without bond in the Montgomery County Detention Facility.
