ESPN to televise Colorado’s spring game but Alabama’s will be streaming-only

Deion Sanders and Nick Saban will coach their respective spring games at the same time April 22, and ESPN will televise Sanders’.

The network announced Monday that it will air Colorado’s “Black and Gold” spring game at 2 p.m. CT on its main television network. The game will mark the debut as a Power 5 head coach for Sanders, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Alabama’s “A-Day” spring game also kicks off at 2 p.m. CT in Bryant-Denny Stadium, the school announced last week. For a second year in a row, ESPN will not air the game on its traditional television networks and it will only be available to stream on ESPN+ and SEC Network+.

The last Alabama spring game to air on ESPN came in 2021, when the network drew 547,000 viewers three months after the Tide completed an undefeated season and won a national title.

This spring, Alabama is coming off a season in which it lost two games and missed the College Football Playoff. The winner of the past two national titles, Georgia, will have its spring game aired April 15 on ESPN2.

The other spring game airing on an ESPN television network is Virginia’s April 15 on ACC Network, the first game for the Cavaliers since three of their players were shot and killed on campus last November.

ESPN also announced Monday that it will air Alabama’s pro day March 23 on SEC Network at noon CT, when quarterback Bryce Young is expected to throw for NFL scouts.
