At least three motorists are being taken to the hospital from a morning crash on Interstate 65 in Birmingham.

The crash happened about 8:30 a.m. Monday on I-65 northbound near the Third Avenue North exit. Three vehicles were involved, and the wreck shut down a portion of the interstate.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service Battalion Chief Jackie Hicks said three patients are being transported to UAB Hospital in critical condition. A fourth person was also injured.
