Former Alabama RB Ahmaad Galloway died from accidental overdose, per report

Former Alabama running back Ahmaad Galloway died from an accidental overdose, officials told TMZ Sports.

The Office of the Medical Examiner in St. Louis said Galloway, who played for Alabama from 1999 to 2002, died from a combination of fentanyl, ethanol and xylazine.

Galloway, 42, was an English teacher at a middle school in St. Louis. He was found dead in his home on Jan. 9 after he failed to show up to work.

Galloway, originally from Tennessee, joined Alabama in 1999 and began earning significant playing time in 2000 after Shaun Alexander was drafted to the NFL. He ran for 1,540 yards and 13 touchdowns as a sophomore and junior, but had his senior season in 2002 cut short by a knee injury.

The Denver Broncos drafted Galloway in the seventh round of the 2003 NFL draft, and he later spent time with the San Diego Chargers and in NFL Europe.
