Freeze warnings issued for parts of Alabama tonight

Unseasonably cold temperatures are expected across Alabama tonight, and freeze warnings will go into effect for parts of the state.

Look for lows to fall below freezing across north Alabama and the northern part of central Alabama tonight, according to the National Weather Service.

Tuesday night could be even a few degrees colder, and freeze watches have been issued for parts of the state for the Tuesday night-Wednesday morning timeframe.

Here are the lows expected tomorrow night:

Temperatures will again be near or below the freezing mark in parts of Alabama from Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Temperatures are expected to warm some after Wednesday, but another shot of cool air will be possible over the upcoming weekend.

Here is a look at the freeze warnings and watches for Alabama:

NORTH ALABAMA

* Freeze warning from midnight tonight until 10 a.m. Tuesday for Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Morgan, Marshall, Jackson, DeKalb and Cullman counties.

The National Weather Service in Huntsville said temperatures in the 25-30 degree range are expected tonight into Tuesday morning.

* Freeze watch in effect from Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning for all of north Alabama. Temperatures are expected to fall to between 23 and 28 degrees on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

CENTRAL ALABAMA

* Freeze warning from midnight tonight until 10 a.m. Tuesday morning. The counties in the warning are Marion, Lamar, Fayette, Winston, Walker, Blount, Etowah, Calhoun, Cherokee, Cleburne, Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, Talladega, Clay, Randolph, Sumter, Greene, Hale, Perry, Bibb, Chilton, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Chambers, Marengo, Dallas, Autauga, Lowndes and Elmore.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham said temperatures as low as low as 30 degrees will be possible tonight.

* Freeze watch from late tonight through Tuesday morning for Montgomery, Macon, Bullock, Lee, Russell, Pike and Barbour counties.

The weather service said temperatures as low as 34 degrees will be possible in those areas.

* Freeze watch from Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning for Marion, Lamar, Fayette, Winston, Walker, Blount, Etowah, Calhoun, Cherokee, Cleburne, Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, Talladega, Clay, Randolph, Sumter, Greene, Hale, Perry, Bibb, Chilton, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Chambers, Marengo, Dallas, Autauga, Lowndes, Elmore, Montgomery, Macon, Bullock, Lee, Russell, Pike and Barbour counties.

Temperatures by Wednesday morning could fall as low as 28 degrees.

SOUTH ALABAMA

South Alabama freeze watch

A freeze watch will be in effect for the northern part of southwest Alabama starting late tonight.

* Freeze watch for tonight until Tuesday morning and from Tuesday night until Wednesday morning for Choctaw, Clarke, Wilcox, Butler and Crenshaw counties.

The National Weather Service in Mobile said temperatures tonight could fall to 32 degrees. Tuesday night could be even colder, and temperatures could fall as low as 30 to 32 degrees.
