Birmingham 4-month-old girl dead from trauma; death ruled homicide by coroner

A Birmingham infant girl has died, and authorities say her death has been ruled a homicide.

Police on Saturday identified the victim as Autumn Duskin. She was 4 months old.

The city’s South Precinct officers were dispatched at 10 a.m. Thursday to Children’s of Alabama on a report of an unresponsive baby who had been brought to the hospital, said Officer Truman Fitzgerald. She had arrived by private vehicle.

Autumn was pronounced dead at the hospital. Fitzgerald said the baby was at her Birmingham home prior to being brought in.

The Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Officer performed an autopsy on Autumn and, on Friday, said trauma led to her death.

Birmingham homicide detectives have presented the case information to the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office to determine if formal charges will be filed. No additional information will be released by police unless criminal charges are filed, Fitzgerald said.

Autumn is Birmingham’s 15th homicide this year, and the first to happen since Feb. 22.

In all of Jefferson County, there have been 19 homicides including the 15 in Birmingham.
