Mother accused of leaving 2 children in Texas without food arrested in Mobile

A Texas mother who police say abandoned her two children six months ago has been arrested in Mobile after a tip led U.S. Marshals to a Mobile apartment complex where she had been staying.

Raven Sywaun Yates is now in the Mobile County Jail, awaiting extradition to Texas where she is charged with two counts of abandoning/endangering a child without intent to return.

According to the Roman Forest (Texas) Police Department, Yates left her home there on Sept. 8, 2022, leaving behind a 12-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son.

The children were “without access to food or medical supplies” from Sept. 28 until Nov. 14, when the father of the 12-year-old realized they had been left alone because she kept asking her father, who lives in California, to send food.

The father flew in from California to help the children, who were ultimately sent to live with a family member in Alabama, according to police.

On Dec. 8, a warrant for Yates’ arrest was issued in Texas and the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offender Task Force joined the search for Yates, who had been seen in Mobile.

After Roman Forest police released details of the case to media, Yates had posted on social media about the situation. On her Facebook page, she describes herself as an “International Mommy CEO/Recording Artist/Model/Actress.”

Her posts led to numerous tips to police.

On March 8 — six months to the day she left Texas — Yates was tracked to the apartment complex in Mobile, where the apartment manager confirmed Yates had been staying with a male resident.

At 4:30 p.m., the male subject cooperated with agents gaining entry into the apartment, where Yates was apprehended without incident.
