Alleged north Alabama arsonist set fire to 5 structures, tried to burn down 6th

An alleged arsonist who set fire to five structures Wednesday in north Alabama was arrested after an officer him trying to burn down a sixth, authorities said.

The suspect had already set fire to two mobile homes, two vehicles and a shed on Wednesday in Greenhill when Lauderdale County sheriff’s deputies joined St. Florian and Killen police officers, who saw him pour gasoline on a house in Greenhill, Sheriff Joe Hamilton told WAAY.

The man allegedly picked up a bow and arrow when the officer confronted him, but he was able to be subdued and arrested without incident, Hamilton told the station.

No one was injured in the fires, which are being investigated by the sheriff’s office and the state Fire Marshal’s Office.
