Fullback Khari Blasingame will re-sign with the Chicago Bears rather than test free agency next week.

The former Buckhorn High School standout’s agency, Team IFA, announced on Wednesday night that Blasingame and the Bears had reached an agreement on a two-year contract extension. The value of the deal has not been revealed.

The one-year contract that Blasingame signed last offseason with Chicago was scheduled to expire at 3 p.m. CDT March 15.

Blasingame played in 16 games with six starts for Chicago in his fourth NFL season. Although Blasingame did not have a rushing attempt or a reception in the 2022 season, he played 174 snaps – 18 percent – for the NFL’s No. 1 rushing offense. Blasingame also was on the field for 215 special-teams plays during the 2022 season.

Blasingame went from Buckhorn to Vanderbilt to play safety. He switched to linebacker, then played running back his final three seasons.

Blasingame entered the NFL by signing with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted rookie in 2019.

Blasingame had spent his rookie season on the Vikings’ practice squad when the Tennessee Titans signed him for their active roster with six games left in the 2019 campaign.

In three seasons with the Titans, Blasingame played in 32 games with 317 offensive snaps and 410 special-teams plays. He ran for 6 yards on three rushing attempts and caught 10 passes for 97 yards with Tennessee.

Blasingame finished the 2021 season as a restricted free agent. When Tennessee did not make the necessary tender offer to keep him, he became an unrestricted free agent and left for Chicago.
