Lincoln Project cuts ad of Tuberville’s ‘reparation’ comment

Already engulfed in criticism among Democrats for his comments over the weekend saying the party wants “reparation” because it is “pro-crime,” Tommy Tuberville is now being condemned by a group of current and former Republicans.

The Lincoln Project, the group that formed in opposition to Donald Trump, cut an ad featuring Tuberville’s remark made at a Nevada rally for Republican Senate candidate Adam Laxalt.

Tuberville joined Trump and other Republicans speaking at a rally near Lake Tahoe.

“They want reparation because they think the people who do the crime are owed that,” Tuberville said as the crowd cheered behind him. “Bullshit!” he added.

Tuberville’s remark was spliced together with Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene suggesting “illegal immigrants” are “replacing” white Americans, a reference to the great replacement theory steeped in white supremacist ideology.

“This is what fear-mongering looks like,: the group tweeted Monday night. “These comments from Marjorie Taylor-Greene and Tommy Tuberville would not have been out of place in 1930′s Germany. Rabid racism is a core element of the MAGA GOP.”

Tuberville has not made a statement on his remark since he made it, and his office has not responded to repeated requests by AL.com for comment.

Alabama’s junior senator has been slammed by Democrats in the state and beyond who said his remark was racist.

Rep. Chris England, a former Alabama Democratic Party Chair, said on Twitter that the comments were “bullshit”– the same word Tuberville used to describe Democrats’ support of “reparation.”

“There is some bullshit here but it isn’t what (Tuberville) thinks it is. The bullshit is that this guy is a United States Senator in the first place,” England posted.
