Brandon Miller earns first All-American honor toward NCAA consensus status

Alabama forward Brandon Miller was named Tuesday as a first-team All-American by Sporting News, his first honor toward earning NCAA consensus All-America status.

Sporting News is one of four All-America lists officially recognized by the NCAA in its record book. No Alabama player has ever earned consensus All-America status.

Miller was joined on Sporting News’ first team by Purdue’s Zach Edey, Indiana’s Trayce Jackson-Davis, Kansas’ Jalen Wilson and Gonzaga’s Drew Timme.

The Associated Press will release its All-America list next Tuesday.

Miller is among the final 10 candidates for a national player of the year award, the USBWA’s Oscar Robertson trophy. He was not among the final 15 for the Wooden Award, and the Naismith Award will reveal its semifinalists Friday.

Miller is averaging 19.6 points per game, which is the most in the SEC and 32nd in Division I. Miller’s 2.97 three pointers per game are also the SEC’s most and rank 23rd in Division I.
