Who killed Cam Bozman? Mom pleads for answers 4 years after killing on I-65 in Homewood: ‘I won’t rest’
Four years ago this week, the unthinkable happened to Daun Bozman.
Her son, 18-year-old son Cameron “Cam” Bozman, was shot to death while driving on Interstate 65 in Homewood. To make matters worse, no one has been arrested or charged in the death of the Pleasant Grove High School graduate.
“I want to know who killed Cameron. I’m not at peace with not knowing,’’ Daun said. “I’m not at peace with Cameron being gone but I can’t reverse that or bring him back as bad as I want to.”
Cameron was found critically wounded at just after 11:35 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018, when Homewood police responded to a report of a person shot on the off-ramp of I-65 northbound to Oxmoor Road.
Officers arrived to find Cameron in a gold Toyota Solara suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:51 a.m. Wednesday, Oct 10.
Investigators said the suspect vehicle has been described as a black, four-door sedan. There’s been little other information to go on since then.
Homewood police last year announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in Cameron’s slaying. Gov. Kay Ivey’s office added $5,000 to the existing Crime Stoppers reward which brings the total to $10,000.
Homewood police Sgt. John Carr said no new leads have come in, and the investigation is ongoing.
Daun is frustrated at the lack of an arrest.
Bozman said her son, who was majoring in social work at Lawson State, had gone to Buffalo Wild Wings in Hoover that night with his usual group of friends, and then to a foam party in Birmingham.
He was returning to his student apartment when the shooting happened. She said her son’s friends were in another car behind him on I-65.
“I really thought Homewood would be able to solve this,’’ she said. “I didn’t even think it would a year,’’ much less four.
Daun struggles every day with Cam’s death. But the anniversary is always worse.
“Cameron got shot on the 9th and the doctor pronounced him dead on the 10th,’’ she said. “I don’t sleep on those days. I’m aching for Cam, and reminiscing about that night up in the waiting room. I didn’t get to see him.”
Bozman, who has described her son as smart and humble and loving.
“They (the killer or killers) didn’t even Cameron an opportunity live his life, to experience life,’’ she said. “But they’re still out there living theirs.”
“I want to ask the person, ‘Why did you do this to Cameron?’,’’ she said. “People are not willing to come forward. I won’t rest.”
“I’m making it but it’s not easy. I’m tired,’’ she said. “I’m tired of pretending I’m OK and I’m not OK.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Homewood police at 205-332-6200 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
