Montana Fouts throws perfect game one day after Alabama teammate’s no-hitter
Alabama softball pitcher Montana Fouts threw a perfect game Sunday in a six-inning, run-rule win over Longwood.
Fouts retired all 18 batters she faced through six innings, striking out 14 of them, before Alabama scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win, 8-0, in Tuscaloosa.
Fouts’ perfect game is the third of her career and the second she pitched by herself. Her first solo perfect game came during the 2021 Women’s College World Series against UCLA. She also threw four innings of a combined perfect game against Alabama State in 2021.
Sunday’s perfect game came after Alabama’s Jaala Torrence threw a no-hitter Saturday in a five-inning, run-rule 10-0 win over Robert Morris. That was the 42nd no-hitter in program history.
Fouts’ perfect game was the seventh solo in program history. Alabama’s first-ever perfect game was thrown by Stephanie VanBrakle in 2006, Sydney Littlejohn threw a pair during the 2015 season, and Alexis Osorio’s pitched one in 2017 before Fouts’ in 2021. Last season, Lexi Kilfoyl threw her first perfect game.
Fouts, a fifth-year senior, improved to 9-1 with the win. She has 107 strikeouts in 62 innings this season.
Alabama is 16-3 and will play the second game of a doubleheader Sunday against Mercer. The Tide begins SEC play March 18 against Arkansas.
