Two tornadoes confirmed from Friday’s storms

Friday’s round of severe weather caused widespread wind damage across north and north-central Alabama and has been blamed for three deaths.

It also produced two tornadoes in Jackson County.

The National Weather Service in Huntsville took a look at storm damage in Jackson County on Friday and identified two separate tornado tracks.

One was near Section; the other was near Pisgah. Both tornadoes came from the same storm.

The Section tornado was given a preliminary rating of EF-1 with peak winds estimated at 95 mph, the weather service said. It had a path length of 5.044 miles and a path width of 105 yards. There were no injuries.

The tornado touched down at 12:43 p.m. south of Section and uprooted trees. It headed northward and flipped a manufactured home and damaged several others. The tornado tracked toward Dutton, causing minor roof damage to a home off Hodge Road and County Road 124. Before lifting, the tornado tore metal roofing off a chicken house near County Road 19.

The Pisgah tornado was also given a preliminary rating of EF-1 and had top winds estimated at 95 mph.

It was on the ground for 3.17 miles and had a path width of 50 yards. There were no injuries. The tornado touched down at 12:47 p.m. near County Road 88, uprooting trees. It tracked near County Road 61 and ended on County Road 126, where minor damage to chicken houses was found.
