March Madness: OVC tournament marred as SIUE’s DeeJuan Pruitt punches Rifen Miguel in face

Three players were ejected from an Ohio Valley Conference tournament game Thursday night during UT Martin’s 81-75 win over SIU Edwardsville after SIUE’s DeeJuan Pruitt punched Rifen Miguel in the face.

The fight took place in the first at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana.

The two were were in each other’s faces.

UT Martin forward Jalen Myers came in and tried to throw a punch at Pruitt, but he missed.

After a more than 10-minute delay, the three were ejected from the game. Miguel’s face was bleeding as he left the court, per the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

Jordan Sears led UT Martin with 33 points and sealed the victory with a layup with 36 seconds remaining as the Skyhawks defeated SIU-Edwardsville 81-75 on Thursday night in an Ohio Valley Conference Tournament quarterfinal.

Sears also added five rebounds for the Skyhawks (19-13). Koby Jeffries scored 14 points while going 4 of 8 and 6 of 6 from the free-throw line. Desmond Williams recorded 11 points and was 3-of-5 shooting (3 for 4 from distance).

Damarco Minor finished with 32 points, nine rebounds and six assists for the Cougars (19-14). Lamar Wright added 22 points and six rebounds for SIU-Edwardsville.

Sears scored nine points in the first half and UT Martin went into the break trailing 36-35. Sears scored a team-high 24 points for UT Martin in the second half.

Minor finished with 32 points and nine rebounds for SIUE after shooting 11-of-19 from the field. Lamar Wright added 22 points off the bench, and was the only other Cougar to score in double figures in the loss.

Jordan Sears dropped 33 points to lead the Skyhawks in the win, and Koby Jeffries added 14 points off the bench. Miguel had seven points and two rebounds when he was ejected.

UT Martin will take on Tennessee Tech in the semifinals of the OVC tournament on Friday night.
