Fort Payne man charged with critically injuring 2 elderly people

The discovery of two critically injured people Sunday led to the arrest of a Fort Payne man.

Fort Payne Police Chief David Davis said officers received a call early Sunday morning for a welfare check at a residence. They found two people injured who were transported to DeKalb Regional.

The two, who were not identified, were later taken to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, where they are listed in critical condition, Davis said.

Brent Preston Hunter, 56, has been charged with two counts of first degree domestic violence, two counts of elder abuse, and certain persons forbidden to possess firearms. He is being held in the DeKalb County Detention Center on $255,000 bond.

The Dekalb/Cherokee County District Attorney’s office also assisted in the investigation.
