Tex-Mex chain looks to expand into Birmingham, Southeast

An Orlando, Fla.-based fast-casual Tex-Mex restaurant chain is looking to expand throughout the Southeast, and has Birmingham on its radar.

Tijuana Flats plans to open 50 locations in the Southeast by 2025, and the company is looking for franchise partners for three or more locations.

“This is an opportunity to franchise with one of the boldest brands in the fast-casual restaurant space,” CEO Joe Christina said.

An expanded franchise development program with growth incentives is available for those who sign on by Dec. 1. New franchisees will receive 50 percent off franchise fees and a ramp-up royalty scale starting at only one percent in the first year, according to the company.

Founded in 1995 in Winter Park, Fla., Tijuana Flats has grown to 104 company-owned and 20 franchised restaurants located in Florida, Indiana, Virginia, North Carolina and Illinois. The company looks to expand into Georgia, Mississippi, the Carolinas and Tennessee.

Each restaurant features a hot sauce bar with up to 15 hot sauce flavors, and a menu of starters, wings, salads, tacos, burritos, bowls, desserts and other items.
