They’re giving me my own newsletter. I’ve decided to call it “Joe Goodman’s Sports Happy Hour,” and so the editors and higher ups are regretting it already.

Oh, well.

“Why ‘Sports Happy Hour?’” they said.

Heavy pours for everyone, but the bulletin board material and banter, mostly. Nick Saban and Hugh Freeze are already big fans.

Each Tuesday morning beginning next week, the “Sports Happy Hour” will hit the email inboxes of people who sign up. It’s super easy, and the newsletter is going to be fun. We’ll talk about my columns, and plenty of other stuff, too. Enter your email address in the graphic up top to subscribe.

Being the sports columnist for AL.com is an enormous honor, and one of the things I’ve enjoyed most about my dream job is interacting with readers every day. We might get a little sideways from time to time, but we’ll get through it together. At the Sports Happy Hour, the first round is always on me. Along the way, we’ll keep people informed and highlight some local wins alongside the major news of the day.

This newsletter is going to hit some things that don’t get covered anywhere else. College football of course will flow freely at the Sports Happy Hour, but I’m going to be writing about a little bit of everything. We’ll explore the quirkier side of sports at times, post some exclusive content and get everyone to the finish line in time for a toast to the games and outdoor pursuits we all enjoy together.

Wait, outdoor sports?

Yep, outdoor activities are a huge passion for a lot of people, and the Sports Happy Hour will reflect that, too. Sports donks come in all shapes and sizes.

The first newsletter drops right before the SEC and CUSA basketball tournaments, and then the second Sports Happy Hour will hit right before the NCAA Tournament. Spring football is gearing up, and soccer and baseball seasons, too. The Sports Happy Hour will have some reliable standards each week and evolve over time with the sports calendar.

My career as a journalist has been a wild ride, but this journey is just beginning. I have stories to tell. I got shots to pour and shots to take. Pull up a stool at the bar, and enjoy a Sports Happy Hour with me and my friends.
