Atmore father charged with murder in hot car death of 2-year-old
A 51-year-old Atmore father has been charged with reckless murder in the death of his two-year-old child who was left unattended in a vehicle for several hours and died at a local hospital.
According to Atmore police chief Charles Brooks, his department received a call around 4:30 p.m. Monday from Atmore Community Hospital that a two-year-old child had been brought in by the father, identified as Shaun Rounsavall.
Officers responding to the scene learned the child was supposed to have been dropped off at a local daycare Monday morning.
When Rounsavall arrived at the daycare that afternoon to pick the child up, he was told the child had never been dropped off.
Rounsavall then found the child in the backseat of the vehicle and rushed to the hospital, where the child was pronounced dead a short time later.
Rounsavall was taken into custody, charged with reckless murder and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center.
