Unidentified man found dead, surrounded by dogs, on Jefferson County roadside

An investigation is underway after a man was found dead Tuesday on a west Jefferson County roadside.

The discovery was made just before 7 a.m. by a passerby, said Lt. Joni Money. The location was Iceland Avenue and Utica Place.

Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene and discovered the man unresponsive. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Money said there were six large dogs around the body. Animal control had to be called to trap the dogs before investigators could begin their probe.

The trapping took more than an hour.

It’s too soon, Money said, to tell how the man died and if the dogs played a role in his death.

His identity has not yet been confirmed.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of his death.
