Victims of violent home invasion in Jeffco were randomly chosen, followed home; 3 including juvenile girl jailed
Three people – including a juvenile – have been charged in a robbery and home invasion at a northern Jefferson County home.
Kimberly police Chief Ricky Pridmore said the victims were chosen at random and followed home from somewhere else.
The chief Monday night announced formal charges against Kevin Lee Underwood, Kenyatta Looney, and a juvenile girl whose name is not being released because of her age.
All three suspects are from Birmingham, Pridmore said.
Underwood, 20, is charged with attempted murder, three counts of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree burglary and second-degree receiving stolen property. He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 7:10 p.m. Monday and is being held without bond.
Looney, 28, is charged with three counts of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree robbery and first-degree burglary. She had not yet been booked into the county jail as of 8 p.m. Monday.
The juvenile girl is also charged with three counts of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree robbery and first-degree burglary. She is charged as an adult.
The ordeal happened just before 7 p.m. Saturday at a residence in the 300 block of Reed Way. One person was injured, but the nature of that injury wasn’t released.
“The defendants showed the desperation that criminals will go to so they can illegally obtain what doesn’t belong to them,’’ the chief said. “Even if that means following people back to their homes and committing acts of violence.”
Pridmore said he is not releasing additional details to maintain the integrity of the court case.
The chief thanked the Warrior Police Department and the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office which have been working with Kimberly police throughout the weekend on the investigation.
“The most important part to remember currently is to be not only be aware of your surroundings but also look out for those around you,’’ he said. “If it does not look right or feel right call your local law enforcement.”
“We want the criminals to know if you come to north Jefferson County to commit crimes,” Pridmore said, “we will catch you and we will work alongside our partners to make sure you are charged for the crimes you commit.”
