Family of Alabama man who died in 1963 may have info on New York serial killer victims: FBI

Family and friends of an Alabama man who died in 1963 may have clues to solving the identity of a woman and believed to be the victim of a New York serial killer, according to the FBI.

Elijah “Lige” Howell/Howard lived in Prichard and died in Mobile in 1963. His relatives and friends “may be able to assist in the case of a woman and child found in another state,” Mobile police said on behalf of the FBI in a Facebook post Friday.

The social media post also included a picture of a peach tattoo, asking Facebook users, “does this tattoo look familiar?”

The tattoo belongs to an unidentified woman labeled Jane Doe #3 and also referred to as “Peaches” because of the body decoration, according to the task force created to help solve the Gilgo Beach serial murders.

The remains of Peaches’ 2-year-old daughter were also found near her body.

In 2010, 10 sets of human remains on Long Island were found, setting off a search for the at-large serial killer. The remains were found during a search for one missing woman when authorities realized they were dealing with a serial murderer.

Anyone with information on the tattoo was asked to call the FBI at 1-800-call-FBI or send a tip online at www.tips.fbi.gov.
