‘About My Father‘ trailer: Movie filmed in Mobile with Robert De Niro, Maniscalco

Here’s our first look at “About My Father,” the new Sebastian Maniscalco-Robert De Niro movie filmed largely in Mobile in 2022.

The first trailer for the film puts some flesh on the basic premise we already knew: Maniscalco plays a version of himself, a son of immigrants who’s about to spend a weekend getting to know his fiancee’s hoity-toity Southern parents – and who’s afraid his pop is going to be too much for them to take.

“He’s worried his immigrant father’s going to make him look like some kind of a goombah,” as De Niro puts it in the trailer. “You gotta dial it down,” insists Maniscalco.

The production used a variety of locations in the Mobile area, including a restaurant and a hair salon in west Mobile. But the trailer offers just glimpses as it sets up the characters, the dilemma – and maybe a family scandal involving some peacocks.

The movie is slated for release on Memorial Day weekend, according to the trailer.
