Presidents Day 2023: What’s open, what’s closed Monday? Banks, UPS, mail delivery, supermarkets, schools

Monday, Feb. 20 is Presidents Day in the U.S. The day is a federal holiday, meaning many offices, schools and government services will be closed.

The day was originally established in 1885 in recognition of the first president, Georgia Washington. The holiday become known as Presidents Day after it was moved to the 1971′s Uniform Monday Holiday Act, which moved several holidays to Mondays to allow for three day weekends for federal workers.

Today, Presidents Day is a time to commemorate all U.S. presidents, past and present.

What’s open, what’s closed on Presidents Day 2023:

Federal offices – Closed

State offices – Closed

Municipal, county offices– Most closed

Schools – Most closed

U.S. Post Offices – Closed, no mail service will run. Only Priority Mail Express will be delivered.

FedEx and UPS – FedEx and UPS will be delivering. FedEx Express and FedEx Ground Economy will be on a modified service schedule. UPS will open on a normal schedule.

Banks – Most all closed.

Financial markets – New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will be closed Monday.

Grocery stores – Almost all will be open. Check with your local supermarket to see if there are different hours.

Walmart and Target – Walmart and Target will be open regular hours on Presidents Day. Walmart will be open 6 a.m.-11 p.m. and Target from 8 a.m.-9 p.m.

Grocery stores – Most supermarkets will be open. Shoppers should ultimately check with their local supermarket for specific information.

Department stores – Most all open regular schedules
