I-565 blasting in Madison, affecting traffic rescheduled for this week

Construction blasting on Interstate 565 in Madison, postponed from its original scheduled date last week, is set to take place this week and it will affect traffic.

The city of Madison said there will be two blasts each day from Monday through Wednesday as construction of the $37 million flyover ramps at Town Madison gears up.

The blasts are scheduled to take place each day at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Madison police will control traffic with rolling roadblocks across all lanes of traffic both eastbound and westbound, the city’s announcement said.

Traffic will be slowed to about 20 mph to allow for the blasting and the cleaning of debris from the highway.

The elevated ramps under construction — which will cross above all lanes on I-565 — will allow direct access to Town Madison for westbound traffic coming from neighboring Huntsville. There is also a ramp leaving Town Madison to accommodate westbound traffic.

Ramps for eastbound traffic were opened in 2021. The ramps will be built just west of Toyota Field – the home of the Rocket City Trash Pandas minor league baseball team — in the same vicinity as the eastbound inbound and outbound ramps.

The ramps – being constructed by McInnis Construction and Miller & Miller — are expected to be completed in November 2024
