Gatlinburg fire: Body found in blaze rubble, cause of fire under investigation

Crews working a Gatlinburg structure fire that began early Sunday morning discovered a body.

The body of an unidentified person was found amid the rubble of a downtown section of buildings that included Puckers Sports Bar, Café 420, China Bazaar, Gifts of Gatlinburg and Town Center Place, WATE reported. All of the buildings are located in the 700 block of the Parkway in downtown Gatlinburg.

The identity of the person has not been released and the cause of both the death and the fire remain under investigation by the Gatlinburg Fire Department, Gatlinburg Police Department and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

Demolition of the buildings has started and the city reopened the Parkway to through traffic Monday afternoon. Downtown sidewalks are open except for a southbound portion between Johnny Rockets and The Gatlinburg Inn that will remained closed until permanent fencing is installed by the property owner.
