Authorities have released the name of a truck driver killed in a crash on Interstate 459 in Irondale.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Sherman Louis Mann. He was 56 and lived in Dallas, Georgia.

The crash happened about 8 a.m. Thursday near Liberty Parkway and Grants Mill Road.

Irondale Assistant Fire Chief Brad Doss said the tractor, which did not have a trailer attached, left the roadway, and went down a ravine. The truck struck multiple trees before coming to a rest.

First responders had to cut trees and brush to get to the driver.

Mann was pronounced dead at 8:49 a.m.

Alabama state troopers are investigating.
