UAB Health System continues expansion with RMC of Anniston as a potential affiliate

The UAB Health System is in the process of bringing in another Alabama hospital to join the dozen or so they currently have agreements with.

UAB recently announced that The Health Care Authority of the City of Anniston (RMC) signed a non-binding Letter of Intent (LOI) to become an affiliate of the UAB Health System.

“RMC’s Board is excited to take this next step to improve local access to the best healthcare,” said Jay Jenkins, Chair of the RMC Board of Directors in UAB’s press release. “An affiliation with UAB will help ensure we can continue to meet the healthcare needs of our friends, family, and neighbors in Northeast Alabama for years to come.”

Jenkins previously told The Anniston Star reporter Brian Graves that the decision was made in part due to obstacles RMC had faced to provide quality care as a smaller health care system in a rural environment.

According to the release a partnership with UAB would allow the hospital’s medical staff and their expertise to be extended to Anniston/Oxford region to improve patient care and community support.
