Dave & Buster’s trolls Chuck E Cheese after viral arrest of famed character
The folks at Dave & Buster’s couldn’t let a good opportunity pass them by.
So, the social media team trolled Chuck E. Cheese after a viral story about the children’s amusement center’s famed mouse getting handcuffed and arrested – in front of children – for credit card fraud.
“Some would say he was Dave and Busted,” the post on X read Friday.
The Tallahassee Democrat reports Jermell Jones, who was in full costume, was arrested on three felonies on July 3 after a customer reported a stolen credit card the month prior.
While a spokesman said the intent was to walk Jones, or Chuck E., outside before arresting him, that’s not what happened.
According to police reports, one officer, while grabbing the employee, referred said, “Chuck E, come with me, Chuck E.”
“But when they approached him, he immediately tenses up and resists, and so at this point they make the decision to put him in handcuffs, keeping in mind the safety of not only the customers, but the suspect, as well as the officers themselves,” police spokesperson Alicia Hill told the Democrat.
Photos later showed Jones unmasked with the rodent head on the squad car.
Hill called it “unfortunate” the subject of the investigation was in costume.
The investigation began when a woman called police to report that someone was using her child support Visa debit card, which she hadn’t seen since a visit Chuck E. Cheese in late June, police records stated. Charges to the card were made at a smoke shop, grocery store and a Whataburger.
