Alabama football flips massive recruit named Bear

A Bear is headed to Tuscaloosa.

Bear Fretwell, a 2026 offensive tackle recruit, has flipped his commitment from Georgia Tech to Alabama, he told Rivals on Friday.

Fretwell is 6-foot-7, 290-pound offensive lineman from Georgia. The 247Sports Composite ranks him as a three-star prospect and the No. 55 offensive tackle in the class and the No. 622 player overall.

Fretwell also has offers from Florida State, Cincinnati, Northwestern, among others.

Fretwell received an offer from Alabama on July 5, per 247Sports.

He becomes the 21st commit in the class for the Crimson Tide. Fretwell joins Sam Utu and Chris Booker as the offensive line commits so far in the 2026 recruiting class.

With the addition of Fretwell, Alabama moved up to No. 3 in the 247Sports Composite rankings behind only Georgia and Southern Cal.

Fretwell joins a list of a handful of prospects the Crimson Tide has flipped for its 2026 recruiting class. The list includes prospects such as defensive back Rihyael Kelley, running back Javari Barnett and quarterback Jett Thomalla.
