2 teens killed, 6 others injured in predawn Jefferson County crash in 1 pickup truck
Two teens were killed and six other teens injured in a predawn crash Sunday in northern Jefferson County.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded at 2:58 a.m. to the single-vehicle crash on Mt. Olive Road near Partridge Loop.
Sheriff’s spokesman Henry Irby said two males – ages 18 and 19 – were pronounced dead on the scene.
Six other passengers, one male and five females, ranging in age from 16 to 19 were transported to UAB Hospital. Irby said their injuries are not life-threatening.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a pickup-truck with eight passengers left the roadway and struck a utility pole.
The victims’ names have not yet been released.
There was an outpouring of grief and prayers shared on social media.
“Please join us in prayer for the families of the young people from Corner who were tragically killed and injured in an automobile accident early this morning,” New Bethel Baptist Church posted on Facebook.
“Our hearts go out to everyone affected by this immense loss. May God’s comfort and peace surround them during this incredibly difficult time.”
HighPoint Community church opened its sanctuary Sunday night for “a time of prayer for our community and families suffering immense loss.”
Gardendale Mayor Stan Hogeland wrote, “My heart breaks for the families of the kids and the entire Corner community. Please pray for all involved. I can’t imagine the pain.”
