OC Todd Monken leaves UGA for NFL, Mike Bobo promoted

Georgia offensive coordinator Todd Monken has been hired by the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens, with Mike Bobo stepping into the job once again.

Bobo spent last season as an offensive analyst for the national championship Bulldogs, for whom he was offensive coordinator under Mark Richt from 2007-14. He was Auburn’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2021, but was fired after one season by former head coach Bryan Harsin.

“We are extremely thankful and appreciative of the three years Todd and his wife, Terri, have spent with our UGA family,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said. “We wish them the best as he moves on to the Ravens organization.

“I am excited to name Mike Bobo our next offensive coordinator.  Mike has a decade of experience as a successful SEC play-caller and over 20 years spent at UGA, both as a player and coach. Mike was an excellent addition to our staff last year as an analyst, and we are looking forward to his expanded leadership on the offensive side of the ball.”

The 48-year-old Bobo played quarterback at Georgia and was on Richt’s staff for 14 seasons before becoming head coach at Colorado State in 2015. In addition his five years with the Rams, he was offensive coordinator and later interim head coach at South Carolina in 2020.

Monken, 57, leaves the college game once again after helping Georgia to back-to-back national titles. He has previously been offensive coordinator with two NFL franchises, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2016-18 and the Cleveland Browns in 2019.

Monken takes over with the Ravens following the resignation last month of long-time OC Greg Roman.

“We conducted 21 interviews with 14 candidates throughout a thorough process that had wide-ranging organizational involvement,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. “Todd’s leadership and coaching acumen were evident from the beginning. He has a proven track record for designing and teaching offensive systems that allow players to succeed at the highest level. We’re excited to get to work and begin building an offense that will help us compete for championships.”

Monken was also head coach at Southern Miss from 2013-15 and coached in college at Eastern Michigan, Louisiana Tech, Oklahoma State and LSU. His first NFL job came as wide receivers coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2007.
