North Alabama man charged with murder of ‘one of the most gentle souls’

An Albertville man has been charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of a Marshall County man.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office said Rafael Comacho Jr., 28, is being held without bond in connection with the death of Millard Jerry Anderson, 69, of Albertville.

Anderson’s body was found Monday at his residence on Brothers Road in the Asbury community with a gunshot wound to the head.

According to the sheriff’s office, investigators determined Comacho as a potential suspect and he was taken into custody on a gun charge.

He will be scheduled for an Aniah’s law hearing in the coming weeks.

“We believe this is an isolated incident over a dispute,” Sheriff Phil Sims said. “The offender was taken into custody in a short amount of time on gun-related charges and is not a threat to the community. Our investigators worked very hard on this case to obtain the necessary information and evidence needed to charge Comacho with this heinous act.”

The Marshall County Coroner’s Office, District Attorney’s Office, Asbury Volunteer Fire Department and Drug Task Force participated in the investigation.

Anderson was remembered by family members as a painter and a man who loved his dog.

Shelia Banks said he was “was one of the most gentle souls.”

“Never bothered anyone. Cared for others to a fault,” she wrote on social media. “Why or how in this world would anyone go in his house and kill this gentle soul?”
