Huntsville transit plan recommends Sunday service, extended hours

Huntsville transit users asked for Sunday service and extended hours during community meetings last year.

It looks as if they’ll be getting their way. A new transit improvement plan makes those recommendations along with other changes to the city’s fixed-route and paratransit service.

About 2,300 riders a day use the transit department’s Orbit bus system. The numbers have been increasing as the community recovered from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The recommendations are the results of several months of analysis by Huntsville Transit and public transportation consultant NelsonNygaard, the city said in a news release.

Input from a broad range of stakeholders helped shape the final five-phase plan.
