Birmingham Water Works Board approves increased donation to the H2O Foundation

In their most recent meeting the Birmingham Water Works Board (BWWB) approved an annual donation of $150,000 to the Help 2 Others (H2O) Foundation.

As The Lede previously reported this nonprofit was founded nearly a decade ago with assistance from BWWB to help eligible Birmingham Water Works customers with water and Jefferson County sewer bills and repairing leaks.

According BWWB spokesman Rick Jackson the utility has previously been responsible for contributing $100,000 to H20 on an annual basis.

BWWB member Ronald Mims previously said this contribution was “pittance” and the rest of the board seemed to agree as this week’s vote to raise the donation amount to $150,000 received unanimous approval.

This decision comes after confusion at the end of 2022 about the foundation’s ability to aid all applicants.
