Accident involving police officer at intersection will cost Huntsville $25K
The city of Huntsville has agreed to pay an accident victim $25,000 to settle a lawsuit involving a police officer.
The City Council approved the settlement at its meeting Thursday night.
According to documents, Maurice Burruss filed suit against the city in November after incurring injuries during a December 2022 motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Pulaski Pike and Mastin Lake Road.
According to the lawsuit, Burruss was traveling through the intersection on a green light on Pulaski Pike when his vehicle collided with a vehicle driven by a Huntsville Police officer, who entered the intersection on a red light without utilizing lights or siren, without slowing down, “and with complete disregard for the safety of others.”
The suit said Burruss suffered injuries as the result of the accident. He sought compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering and mental anguish caused by the injuries in addition to lost wages.
