1 shot, man jailed and 5-year-old narrowly nearly injured in Pell City road rage case

A Harpersville man has been arrested in a Pell City road-rage shooting.

Ethan Crawford, 29, is charged with three counts of attempted murder, three counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle and one count of first-degree assault.

Police responded shortly before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday to the Sonic Drive-In on Highway 231 South on a 911 call of a road-rage incident involving gunfire.

Officers arrived to find a victim who had been shot in the leg, said Pell City police Chief Clay Morris.

Crawford, the chief said, fired multiple rounds into the victim’s vehicle, several of which narrowly missed the victim’s 5-year-old son, who was in a car seat.

The shooting happened, Morris said, on Highway 231 North about a half mile from Sonic.

The suspect fled southbound on Highway 231.

Investigators identified Crawford as the suspect and took him into custody Thursday.

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and the Harpersville Police Department assisted in the investigation and arrest.
