2 men arrested in north Alabama sexual abuse cases, one involving 5-year-old
DeKalb County investigators have arrested two men following investigations into two unrelated case of alleged child sexual abuse.
Sheriff Nick Welden said on Monday a sheriff’s office investigator received a call from a deputy who had responded to an address in Marshall County involving a five-year-old who was being sexually assaulted in DeKalb County last month.
The alleged perpetrator, Ricardo Nicolas Tomas, 19, of Boaz, was taken to the county’s investigation office and interviewed.
According to Welden, Tomas admitted to the allegations and was charged with sexual abuse of a child under 12 years of age. He is being held in the DeKalb County Detention Center on $50,000 bond.
In another case, investigators received a case involving a juvenile from Madison County who had allegedly been abused in DeKalb County.
After interviews along with the Department of Human Resources and the DeKalb County Children’s Advocacy Center, Gerardo Duran Dumas, 25, of Crossville, was charged with first degree sexual abuse.
Dumas was transported to DeKalb County Detention Center.
Welden thanked Albertville and Boaz police, the Marshall County and DeKalb County Departments of Human Resources, the Marshall County and DeKalb County Children’s Advocacy Centers and the Ninth Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for their help in the investigations.
