The price of your favorite Starbucks drink could soon change
Starbucks is changing how it charges for matcha and syrups.
CBS News reports that Starbucks will now charge customers 80 cents for any combination of syrup or sauce that modifies an unflavored drink, instead of charging individually for each add-on. The coffee chain will also charge 50 cents to add dried fruit in a beverage.
The biggest change: Starbucks plans to charge customers $1 for adding a scoop of matcha powder to non-matcha drinks, reports Bloomberg News.
CBS News reports Starbucks is also testing a new feature in the Starbucks app that shows pricing updates in real time when a consumer is ordering food or drinks. The goal, according to a Starbucks spokesperson, is to provide better pricing transparency when people place an order.
The change comes on the heels of an announcement that Starbucks would dial back its frequent discounts and promotions, according to reports from TODAY.com and The Wall Street Journal.
The move is part of an overhaul to bring Starbucks closer to its community coffeehouse roots.
Starbucks has offered a series of promotions and deals in its app, but according to The Wall Street Journal, store managers and baristas reported that promotions made it difficult to deliver precise and timely orders.
