Second arrest made in horrific torture of kidnapped woman who was set on fire at Montgomery motel
A second suspect has been charged in the kidnapping and horrific torture of a woman who was set on fire at a Montgomery motel.
The victim, according to newly released court records, was burned with a heated screwdriver, whipped with a belt, and torched.
The motive, records state, was ransom money.
Daniel Kemarcus Robertson, 24, of Millbrook, is charged with first-degree assault and first-degree kidnapping. Previously arrested on the same charges is 26-year-old Amajay Shomari Nelson-Cox.
Robertson was booked into the Montgomery County Detention Center at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday where he remains held without bond.
The horrendous attack happened at 4 a.m. on June 16 in the 1200 block of West South Boulevard on a report of an assault and kidnapping.
Deputies safely recovered the victim.
She was hospitalized with serious injuries, said Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Assistant Chief Deputy Wesley Richerson.
A short time later, deputies located and arrested Nelson-Cox.
Charging documents state Robertson abducted the young woman with the intent to hold her against her and demanded that she or her mother pay the suspects money.
Robertson, according to the criminal complaint, provided Nelson-Cox with accelerant, a flame torch, bleach and screwdriver.
He heated used the torch to heat up the screwdriver and then handed it to Nelson-Cox and “watched the victim get burned with the screwdriver, whipped with a belt and set on fire,” by Nelson-Cox, records state. Authorities have stated in court records that an accelerant was poured onto the victim, and she was set on fire.
Nelson-Cox, according to records, had the victim contact her mother stating that if she did not provide him with money, he would kill her.
Charging documents against the suspect said he poured an accelerant onto the woman’s body and lit her on fire.
Authorities have not said if the suspect and victim know each other.
“The safety of our community is our top priority,” Richerson said in a statement after the initial arrest.
“We are committed to ensuring violent offenders are held accountable for their actions. We will not spare any resources to protect victims and bring justice to those who do them harm.”
