The AHSAA’s most unbreakable football records; Our picks, your votes

Records are meant to be broken, but others may stand the test of time.

Alabama high school football is scattered with astounding numbers from the state’s historically best players and teams, whether it be in a single game or for an entire career.

Here are some records that stand out as some of the toughest to break in a new era of high school football.

At the bottom, vote for your choice as to which of these records are least likely to be broken.

Most rushing yards in a game

806: Parrish vs. Hubbertville, 2003

The combined mark for both teams in the 81-58 win for Parrish is over 100 more yards than the game in second place, which is a 76-45 victory for Pleasant Grove over Gardendale in 2002 that saw both teams combine for 701 yards.

This matchup between the two programs is also tied for fifth in the AHSAA record book for most combined points in a single game.

Most consecutive shutouts

17: Florala, 1927-1929

A record that has stood for almost 100 years, no team has logged double-digit consecutive shutouts since the top three teams in this leaderboard. The second is Hamilton and Sidney Lanier, who both had a streak of 14 in the 1920s. Donoho is the only team to have more than seven in the 2000s with eight straight shutouts in the 2006 season.

Most career points scored

1,222: Alvin Henderson, Elba, 2020-2024

The reigning Class 1A Back of the Year could be on here for a number of records, but the AHSAA’s all-time leading rusher far exceeds any other player in career points. Behind Henderson, now with Auburn, is former Alexandria star and Mr. Football Mac Campbell, who totaled 928 points during his historic career.

Most rushing attempts in a game

72: Russell Gunter, Straughn vs. Coffee Springs, 1986

The mark for Gunter is also the record for most rushing attempts by a team in a single game, which came in a 22-21 loss. The Straughn star also had 53 and 50 rushing attempts in a game during his career, which both came in losses.

Lance Rolax of Donoho ranks second behind Gunter with 54 rushing attempts in a 20-19 loss to Winterboro in 2002.

Shutouts in a season

11: Clay County, 1996

The eighth Clay County team under legendary coach Danny Horn allowed just 42 points all season and finished with a 42-0 victory over Lineville in the Class 2A state championship. Brantley came close to tying the record with 10 shutouts in 2012 and Montgomery Catholic had nine in 2023.
