Earthquake detected near north Alabama

An earthquake occurred 22 miles north of Huntsville Sunday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake was measured at a 2.4 magnitude on the Richter scale meaning it was on the smaller end of possible earthquakes.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquake was detected at about 5:01 a.m. and had a depth of approximately 1.25 miles.

In 2022, a 2.6 magnitude earthquake occurred about 26.7 miles north of Huntsville.
