Lidl plans to open more locations: Here’s what to know

German-owned international grocery chain Lidl plans to open more locations.

USA TODAY reports the company plans to open stores in several cities such as New York, Atlanta and D.C. metro regions.

According to Delawarelive, Lidl will open a new store in Newark, Del. on July 11. Located off 1616 Pulaski Highway in Newark, the new store will mark the grocery chain’s third location.

Earlier this year, Lidl opened several stores in New York and New Jersey. Here is a list of the openings, according to USA TODAY:

  • Brooklyn, New York – Opened Jan. 29
  • Paramus, New Jersey – Opened Feb. 12
  • Freehold, New Jersey – Opened May 9
  • Brooklyn, New York – Opened May 23

In 2023, Lidl closed locations in North Carolina, South Carolina, New Jersey, and Virginia.

Lidl also had plans to come to Alabama. In 2018, Lidl pulled out of a deal to purchase 4.4 acres of property in Decatur in Morgan County and has not opened any stores in the state.

Lidl made its first entry into the American market in 2017 when it opened nine stores along the East Coast.

Lidl is also planning a rebrand, reports USA TODAY. The company is working with advertising and design agency MONO to launch a new look. The redesign includes a number of updates, including new signs, and video content.
