Auburn basketball hires assistant coach from within to replace Chad Prewett

Following former assistant Chad Prewett’s departure from the staff, Bruce Pearl has found a replacement from within Auburn men’s basketball.

Former director of scouting and recruiting Ian Borders was promoted to the open assistant coach position, the school announced Friday afternoon. Borders has been on Pearl’s staff since 2018, spending five years as the team’s video coordinator and the last two as director of scouting and recruiting.

“We are very excited and pleased to announce Ian Borders stepping into a full-time coaching position on our staff,” Pearl said in a release. “He has been my director of scouting and recruiting the last several years. Ian has a great eye for talent, is a tireless worker and a gifted videographer. Now, he is going to have an opportunity to be on the floor with our players and will be even more directly involved in our recruiting.”

Promoting from within is nothing new for Pearl at Auburn, as Prewett and current assistants Steven Pearl and Mike Burgomaster all held support staff roles before becoming full time assistants.

“I’ve always believed in promoting from within and rewarding good people for a job well done,” Pearl said in the release. “Ian has been with me for a long time.”
