Ground beef sold at national grocery chain might be contaminated with E. coli, USDA warns

Ground beef distributed to retailers nationwide may be contaminated with E. coli, according to a public health alert from the USDA.

The public health alert covers one-pound, vacuum-packed packages of “Organic Ranger Organic Ground Beef 85% lean 15 % fat.” The packages were produced on May 22 and 23 of this year.

The beef was distributed to Whole Foods Market retail locations nationwide and shipped to distributor locations in Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois and Maryland.

The packaging is labeled with “Use or Freeze By 06-19-25” and “Use or Freeze By 06-20-25” and has “EST. 4027” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

A recall was not requested because the products are no longer available for purchase.

There have been no confirmed reports of illness linked to the alert but anyone concerned about an illness should contact a healthcare provider.
