Beloved Alabama orchard known for its apple cider is up for sale

A well-known orchard in Jackson County, one of the largest in the state, is up for sale following the passing of its owner earlier this year.

Crow Mountain Orchard, which consists of 167 acres in Fackler, Ala., is up for sale following the passing of its original owner Robert Lewis Deutscher in March. Once a thriving orchard attracting tourists from around the state, Crow Mountain has been closed since 2024.

Deutscher and his wife Carol, who passed away in 2013, moved to Alabama to open Crow Mountain Orchards in the 1970s, according to The Jackson County Sentinel. During its decades of business, the orchard grew everything from peaches to grapes, muscadines, and more than 25 varieties of apples — including a variety they patented themselves. Crow Mountain Apple Cider, made with fresh apples from the orchard, also became a well-known seasonal favorite sold at grocery stores throughout the South.

The property, which has been left mostly undisturbed since the orchard’s closure, is located at 6236 County Road 39 and was listed in April for $2,125,000 by Capstone Realty.

“A rare opportunity to own a flourishing, fully operational orchard nestled atop the picturesque Crow Mountain,” the listing reads. “This 167-acre property is a proven, income-producing agricultural gem, offering breathtaking mountain views, rich soils, and a strong local reputation for premium fruit production. Crow Mountain Orchards is a beloved name in the region, known for high-quality apples, peaches, pears, and more. Beyond orchard operations, the expansive acreage offers excellent opportunities for agritourism expansion, event venues, winery development, or eco-resort concepts.”
