Birmingham Stallions linebacker wins UFL award after historic performance

Birmingham Stallions linebacker Tae Crowder is the United Football League Defensive Player of the Week after achieving a feat in a 46-9 Week 10 victory over the Memphis Showboats on Sunday for the first time in the spring loop’s history.

Crowder became the first UFL player to return two interceptions for touchdowns in the same game.

The first pick-six covered 51 yards and came after Birmingham defensive end Steve Linton hit Memphis quarterback Dresser Winn as he was throwing. Stallions defensive tackle Willie Yarbary deflected the throw, which was then tipped into the air by Showboats wide receiver Isaiah Washington and caught on the run by Crowder, who sailed into the end zone to give Birmingham a 13-3 lead with 3:10 left in the first quarter.

When Crowder picked off Winn again, he ran 75 yards for a touchdown. Crowder cleared his path to the end zone by faking a pitch to a trailing teammate as the Stallions went in front 39-9 with 14:44 remaining.

The other UFL Player of the Week Award winners were Arlington Renegades quarterback Luis Perez, the Offensive Player of the Week; and Michigan Panthers wide receiver Xavier Malone, the Special Teams Player of the Week.

Crowder became the third Stallions player to win a UFL weekly award in 2025. Kicker Harrison Mevis was the Special Teams Player of the Week Award winner for Week 7, and quarterback J’Mar Smith was the Offensive Player of the Week Award winner for Week 9.

Crowder’s big game came in Birmingham’s regular-season finale. The Stallions will square off against the Michigan Panthers in the USFL Conference Championship Game at 2 p.m. CDT Sunday at Protective Stadium in Birmingham. ABC will televise the game.
