Storms possible in Alabama this weekend: When and where to expect severe weather

Severe storms are in the forecast for Alabama on Friday and Saturday.

The National Weather Service thinks damaging straight-line winds may be the main concern, and storms will be most likely during the afternoon and evening hours both days.

Storms will be more likely on Saturday, but there will also be a risk for them on Friday in the northwest corner of the state.

Here’s the severe weather outlook for Friday, which includes a Level 2 out of 5 risk for northwest Alabama:

A Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather is in the forecast for northwest Alabama on Friday.SPC

A Level 2 (slight) risk means scattered severe storms will be possible.

There will also be another Level 2 risk for more of north Alabama and central Alabama on Saturday (see the outlook for Saturday at the top of this post).

Forecasters will be on the lookout for clusters of storms that could approach Alabama from the northwest, which could generate damaging winds and heavy rain.

More storms could be possible on Sunday, but so far the Storm Prediction Center hasn’t included Alabama in any severe weather risk past Saturday.

More chances for rain and storms will continue into next week, according to forecasters.
