Forecasters watching Thursday for severe weather

The National Weather Service continues to monitor the possibility of severe weather for Alabama for Thursday, Feb. 16.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has the entire state included in a risk for severe storms on Thursday.

The weather service said the details as far as timing and the level of the threat still need to be worked out, but it appears that tornadoes, damaging straight-line winds and hail will all be possible on Thursday in the state.

Storms are expected to develop ahead of a cold front and move through Alabama from west to east.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham said on Saturday morning that it was still too early to get into the specifics, but the parameters expected to be in place on Thursday “all indicate a system that bears watching for all modes of severe weather.”

Forecasters added that the timing “could start as early as Thursday morning and last into Thursday evening,” but that could change as the system evolves, so be sure an keep an eye on the forecast through next week.

This weekend is a good time to review your severe weather preparations — and your plans on Thursday in case severe weather strikes where you plan to be.
